Second Chances ~ Part 37

Shh, I know it's after midnight, but since I haven't gone to bed yet, that just means that it's still Tuesday for me :)
I'm going out of town for a couple of days so I've been packing and doing all the stuff required that I do for the kids' school before leaving. I'm sooo ready for the end of the school year. *sigh*

Part 37

Maria slapped Zack’s hand away. “Will you stop it? I’m not completely helpless you know?”

He held his hands up in surrender. “I’m sorry. I’m just trying to help.” Today was Maria’s third day in the hospital. The baby, nearing the end of its first trimester, was doing fine, and Maria…well, she was Maria…plus some grouchiness. Since she was pregnant, she refused any type of pain medication besides Tylenol, though Zack was sure they were slipping something that was safe for the baby into her IV a couple of times a day. But a fractured pelvis and recovering from surgery wasn’t the kind of thing that would keep this woman down. Thankfully.

Maria sighed. “I know. But really, I’m not an invalid. And it makes me feel better to do things for myself.”

Zack dragged the chair closer to the bed and sat. “You know the doctor doesn’t want you to move about too much at first.”

“It’s been three days!” Her voice rose with frustration. Yeah, Maria was never one to sit still for too long. He could only imagine the hell she’s been going through being bed bound.

He took her hand and gave it a squeeze. “And you’ve got many more to deal with in here. So just sit back and relax.” He gave her a wicked smile. “And if you’re a good girl, I’ll sneak in your cell phone and laptop tomorrow.”

This piqued her interest. “Really?” Charlie had been adamant about making her relax, refusing to let her yap away on her cell phone and spend hours on her laptop.

Zack nodded. “But only for a couple of hours.”

Maria smiled and shifted slowly in the hospital bed. “All right. I’ll even let that handsome male nurse give me a sponge bath tonight.”

He laughed. “You are such a naughty girl.”

“Something’s got to keep me entertained, right?”

They sat there in comfortable silence, Maria leafing through the magazine Zack had brought in that morning. His thoughts wandered to Ryan, who was sleeping after working the night shift. He had that night off, so they could spend some time together.

Zack was still in awe at the relationship developing between them. Everyone had been concerned that when he looked at Ryan, he would see Rob. They were very much wrong. All Zack saw when he gazed upon the handsomeness of Ryan was…Ryan. Plain and simple. Even Dr. Parker had questioned him seemingly endlessly on the subject before she smiled and approved of his choice of partner. She even mentioned that his treatment was coming together quicker and easier than she anticipated after he and Ryan became a couple.

And it felt good. Damn good.

Finally, Zack was ready to move on. He had a future with Ryan and he wasn’t going to spend one minute more than he had to in the past. Yes, they still had Rob’s trial and a few little details, like who’d sent a bomb to their apartment, but overall, he could see them working their way through those obstacles.

“I’m starving. Is it lunchtime yet?”

Zack glanced at his watch and before he could speak, the door opened. At first he was surprised to find Ryan already up and about today. He’d just went to bed after eight that morning. Usually, he didn’t rise until after four.

However, after a couple of heartbeats, his smile disappeared and fear replaced all thoughts of happiness.

“What? Not glad to see me?”

Maria gasped as she too realized who was standing in the room.

“Rob,” Zack growled.

I don't believe this

Life is really strange. Those of you who have been around my blog know that I had a book with Forbidden Publications titled Trio of Tales: Erotically Ever After. It is no longer available for purchase as the contract has expired and I opted not to renew it. However, it's going to go through some rewrites this summer and will most likely be submitted to another of my publishers.

Anyhoo...I tried for a year, submitting requests and such, to get a review for the book. Sadly, with no success...until this week *sigh*

The Romance Studio gave it 5 Hearts!!!
What a surprise *eek*
Have a look :)

Have a great weekend!

Second Chances ~ Part 36

Boy, I almost went to sleep without posting this. Sorry. I got caught up in the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox game. It was great! Loved seeing my Jeter bring in some runs *happy dance* And even better that they won 15 -9 !!!! Whoo hoo!

As you can see, I resized my banner and it's back in place. I added a couple more places on my fav. blog and sites, though lately I haven't had a lot of time to even play. But the MFRW Excerpt Book I've been putting together is completed. Now just waiting to get it converted into other formats. Oh, and I changed my banner for my website also. Stop by and take a look.

Okay, on with the story. This part is longer and meant only for those over 18...and even then I toned it down, but gave poor Zack and Ryan a little down/fun time. Enjoy. (Ps...please forgive any typos)

Part 36

“Are you sure your father doesn’t mind this?” Zack asked, his gaze darting around the room, getting a feel of the man who’d once occupied this space.

“Didn’t you see how ecstatic he was to have house guests?” Ryan chuckled. “I swear. Since he sold his law firm and retired, he’s got way too much time on his hands. He really needs a hobby.”

“I thought it was nice of him to insist that I stay here as well. Charlie had already told me that we could stay with them, but I didn’t have the heart to say no when his eyes were so alive.”

Ryan sighed. “I know. He was really upset when I wouldn’t move here after I got shot. I think he believes taking care of me will give him some purpose in life now that he’s not working.”

Zack sat on the full sized bed on the far side of the room and removed his t-shirt. He felt grimy and his eyes were gritty. Exhaustion had passed hours ago. He felt as if he were running on fumes.

“Well, I won’t be imposing on him much. They are keeping Maria for several days. The doctor wants to observe her and the baby before sending her home. She took care of me, now it’s my turn to return the favor.” He yawned.

Ryan followed suit. They’d both had a long night and morning. However, instead of undressing and crawling into bed, Zack was surprised when Ryan went down on his knees between Zack’s thighs. Arms wrapped tightly around Zack’s waist and Ryan’s head lay on Zack’s chest.

“When I heard the call, I thought I’d lost you forever.”

A lump formed in Zack’s throat and tears welled in his eyes. He had put off his own fear and grief since the doctor announced that Maria was carrying a child. Charlie’s child. Now, feeling safe and in his lover’s embrace, the suppressed emotions broke through the damn.

“I know.” The words were choked. Zack’s hands raised and buried in Ryan’s hair. With eyes closed, he took a long, deep breath. Didn’t want to think about how things would have turned out different if he’d stayed at the apartment.

Ryan raised his head. “I need you.”

Zack opened his eyes and their gazes locked.

“I need to make love to you. Know that you are really alive.”
A tear escaped from Zack’s eye. Though he was beyond tired, he felt the same and craved to feel Ryan’s flesh next to his.

Instead of words, Zack kissed Ryan. Their tongues languidly tangled, neither fighting for domination, but performing an erotic dance the two had experienced many times. The movements and caresses spoke of love and commitment.

Hands began to roam. Ryan’s hands lifted, the touch rocking Zack with goose bumps. Zack in turn started ripping at Ryan’s uniform top. After several clumsy attempts, Ryan pulled away and removed the shirt, utility belt, boots, and socks.

“We are still overdressed.” The corner of Zack’s lips twitched.

Ryan’s hands went to Zack’s waistband. It was only a few breaths before he had Zack’s jeans thrown across the room.

“Better?” He kissed Zack’s abdomen.

Chuckling, Zack laid back on the bed. “You still have your pants.” Having Ryan’s hands on his body, feeling those lips graze his skin, took away the fear, the sight of Maria’s injured body. Ryan was the only one there. Peace.

“Time, lover.” Ryan dipped his head and sucked Zack’s swollen cock into his mouth.

Back arched, hips bucked, and he gasped for air. Heat scorched his body, coursing through every vein and muscle. Need claimed his body and mind.

Ryan used his tongue to stroke and swirl every sensitive spot on his cock. Zack swelled and thought he would explode when Ryan pulled away.

“Damn it,” Zack growled with frustration, fingers curling to grip the comforter none too gently.

Ryan stood and shed his pants. He reached into a bedside drawer and withdrew a bottle of lube and a condom. Zack lifted to his elbows and eyed the objects.

“Expecting to get lucky?”

Ryan shrugged. “I was once a cub scout.”

“That so isn’t funny.”

“I though it was.” Ryan tore open the foil package and rolled it onto his beautifully thick cock while Zack’s gaze watched every movement. “This will be a little cold.”

Zack shivered in anticipation. It was a coolness he craved.
Ryan dropped back to his knees and took Zack back into his mouth with a loud slurp. Zack was quickly lost in desire and moaned when Ryan’s finger invaded his ass. Another joined the first, then a third until Zack was nearly pleading to come as Ryan teased him mercilessly with his fingers and tongue.

“No, no, no,” Zack begged when Ryan pulled away.

“Trust me, this is much better.” Ryan kneeled on the bed and lifted Zack’s legs so they rested on his shoulders. This gave him full access to the tight hole that would soon be stretched.

“I love you, Zack.” Ryan spoke those words just as he slid deep into his lover’s body.

“Shit, Ryan. Yes,” Zack moaned, writhing as Ryan drove his cock in and out. Zack was helpless, at Ryan’s mercy as he fell over the edge of sweet oblivion. He bit his lip to keep from disturbing Ryan’s father, knowing if he allowed his cry out, it would wake the dead. It felt that fucking-tabulous.

Things were a blur for a few seconds after that. Blood tasted bitter in his mouth and his ass felt well used. Then again, he felt as if he were floating on cloud nine. Sated. And loved.

“I love you, too.” Zack closed his eyes, uncaring of their unclothed state or who might walk in on them. Once more warm arms pulled him into a sweet, comforting embrace.

“We’ll be fine. I promise. We’ll make sure he pays.”

The words sounded so far away and sleep claimed Zack. He managed to nod and sigh before he fell under its spell.

A Day of Blogging

It's one of those days to blog.

First off, today was my day to blog over at Slash and Burn. I'm participating in the Round Robin we have going on there and it's turning out to be quite interesting. It's paranormal, dealing with vampires, demons, and ex-lovers. Slip on over and check it out.

Then I posted over on Worlds of Mayhem about My Immortal by Erin McCarthy. This was a great book and definately recommended to anyone who likes the paranormal genre.

Posted a couple of articles on promoting on the Marketing for Romance Writers group I mod for (link in my sidebar). My "To Do" list is slowly getting shorter.

I'll have the next part to Second Chances up sometime on Wednesday. Oh, and I have all the previous links to SC in my sidebar working now. That was a chore in itself. *sigh* I don't know why it didn't just copy and paste correctly *shrug* Still have to work on the banner, but my photoshop is on the desktop and haven't had a chance to get to that one yet (sharing it with the three males in my house, so I stay on my laptop lol).

It's Monday...have a great week!

Newish look

As you can see, I've decided to finally go over to blogspots' templates. I think it's much easier to update the sidebar and doesn't look too bad. There are still a few things that I need to add, like more to the fave author blog/sites and yes, the Second Chances links aren't all working. I'll work on those later tonight. Also, this week I have to resize my banner, so for now it's just text up there. I should have it completed in a day or so.

Feel free to let me know what you think or if I need to add more :) I'll be playing with it here and there this week, so don't be suprised if you one time you get on it's one way, then next time it's another :D

Hope all are having a great weekend! It's rainy here today, but nice enough to open the windows. It's been around the 80s lately and too hot to open up everything.

Second Chances ~ Part 35

With it Spring Break this week, it's hard to keep to schedule, but at least I'm posting :) Still got this nagging cough, but feeling much better than I did a week ago. It's just taking it's own sweet time moving on *sigh* Sinus infections suck!

Part 35

Rob watched the television intently. His hands trembled. Not with worry, but excitement. It was a brilliant idea and untraceable. He could almost taste the sweet victory of revenge. So close. The media just had to confirm it.

“We are still awaiting the Fire Chief’s report as to the cause of the disastrous fire. However, we do have a report of four deaths and at least ten injuries, all sent to the local hospital. The names have not yet been released.”

“Damn,” Rob muttered and started pacing. He needed to know who was dead. If he was really lucky, Ryan would be one of them, but he knew that he was scheduled to work. He’d deal with his brother later. Right now there was only one name he wanted to see in the obituary listing.

He picked up the phone and hit the speed dial. “I need to you go up to the hospital.”

The speeders got a lucky break on this night. Ryan had literally pushed the Sheriff into his car and ordered him to the hospital. Charlie and Maria needed him more than the Fire Chief. However, that left him stuck at the scene to help out. Not unfamiliar with the procedures in these cases, Ryan turned out to be more help rather than a pest to the Fire Chief.

The fire had definitely been started because of a bomb, originating from his apartment. However, they also found some sort of accelerant painted on the walls of the hall around their apartment. It seemed as if whoever did this, wanted to make sure that if they weren’t killed by the explosion, the fire or smoke would do it’s job. Anyone inside the apartment would have been trapped.

“Thanks for the help, Hayes.” The Fire Chief and Ryan stood next to each other watching the left over embers still glowing in the coming dawn.

“Not a problem. Glad I was able to be here rather than inside.”

They stood in silence for several minutes, watching the firemen do their jobs. They were all tired and dirty. Smoke lay heavily in the air. Soot covered the remaining structure of the building.

Ryan’s gut was telling him that Rob had a hand in this. Would there be proof left from this inferno? Probably not. He was positive that Zack had been the target. The package was in Zack’s name and the return address was something no one would think twice about as Zack ordered brushes from the same company every few months to replace the old ones. Rob knew the ins and outs of Zack’s life from their time living together. He’d be the only one to pull it off without suspect. However, Ryan knew.

But once it was found that Zack wasn’t killed in the explosion, Rob would try again…and again until his ex-lover ended up dead. Rob was that vengeful. If anyone knew, it was Ryan.

“Heard about Mrs. Mulligan?”

Ryan nodded. “She’ll be fine. I’m going to stop by the hospital and get the details after I’m done here.”

“Well, I think that you’ve done all you can do here. My men will make sure the embers don’t flare up and you’ve got all you need for a report, correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

“So go on. Get cleaned up, something to eat, and some rest.”

Ryan eyed what had once been his home. “Yeah. Dad’s got my old bedroom ready.”

The Fire Chief chuckled. “Tell the old geezer I said hi.”

A soft smile lifted Ryan’s lips. “I sure will.” He turned and started for his patrol car. Exhaustion was starting to settle as the adrenaline ebbed away. If only he could curl up and sleep for a few days. However, there were other issues still to deal with.

Still sickies in my house :( My mother in law has a sinus infection like me and both my son and hubby has the Flu...not to mention that myself, mother in law, and other son are taking the same Flu medication to try and prevent getting it since it's contagious *sigh* I can't wait to feel better and to clear my head.

On the brighter side...

I don't think I ever put on here that Fallen Angels is now contracted!!!
Below is the blurb. That one will be released with Loose-Id also and before Dragon Riders 2: Reluctant Hearts.

Adam Hardy’s assignment was clear: Infiltrate the pseudo-biker gang Fallen Angels and bring back the dirt on their big boss, Lucifer.

Nowhere in the mission statement did it tell him to fall for their leader, Mammon.

Marc, aka Mammon, thought that a quick dip would sate the lust he held for the newest Fallen Angel. After all, Adam would never be his now that Lucifer has taken an interest in the pretty-boy.

Who knew sex and the unexpected bond of trust would bring the two men together as they try to take Lucifer down and out of their lives forever. Can the two survive all the obstacles thrown at them?

Have a great weekend!

Second Chances ~ Part 34

It's been a week? *slapping forehead* Duh! I guess that's why there's always been huge gaps in my diarys when I was younger.
Sorry, life has been busy last the end of last week and then I've been sick with a severe sinus/ear infection since Saturday *sigh* It's bearable as long as I don't run the 101-102 degree temperature. I have a field trip to Sea World tomorrow with my children. Guess we'll see how I feel after that...

We at the Slash & Burn blog are doing another Round Robin. It looks to be a paranormal theme (vampire) and some hunky men *drool* Most members are participating so drop by as there should be several new installments a week :D

Anyway, here's another chapter :)

Part 34

Zack sat in the surgical waiting room staring at nothing. He saw nothing. Felt nothing. Thought nothing. Numb.

How long had he been here? Time seemed to have stopped since they wheeled Maria away. Tubes already jutting from her body, a mask giving her oxygen. And the black on her skin and clothing. Charred. Zack couldn’t even remember how much later Charlie arrived. And George. He was here now too. Had he spoken to either of them? Zack couldn’t remember.

“It should have been me,” he said in a whisper.

“What?” Charlie gazed over at him.

Zack closed his eyes and took a deep shuddering breath before he opened them and met Charlie’s eyes.

“That should be me in the operating room. Not Maria. She wasn’t supposed to be there.” Filled suddenly with nervous energy, Zack rose from the chair and started pacing.

George’s phone rang. Both Zack and Charlie turned their attention to the older man and listened to his side of the conversation.

“That was the Fire Chief. They’re still trying to extinguish the fire. But one of his men found some possible clues. It looks like pieces to a bomb. And they’ve already confirmed that it started on the third floor. He’ll keep me updated as he finds out more.”

“Jesus.” Charlie drug his hands over his head. He too stood and started moving around the small room. “This is my fault. I should have let her stay at the showing.”

“Well, if you all didn’t think I was so damn fragile, none of you would even have to feel I had to be watched over like an infant.” His fingers balled into fists at his side. Anger was creeping through the numbness, the urge to hit something, break anything was making his hands itch.

Charlie shook his head. “We don’t think that, man.”

“Bullshit! When all this happened, you and Maria hovered over me like mother hens. Ryan was less obvious and things were easier.” Where the hell he was, Zack hadn’t a clue. “Then Rob gets released and you are back on my ass like flies on shit. There’s no one to blame but me. I’m the one who got us all into this fucked up place in life.”

Zack felt himself being propelled backwards until his back slammed into a wall. Charlie had his shirt bunched in his fists, two inches separating their noses.

“Listen to me, Zack.” He spoke through clenched teeth, hissing many of the words. His tone low and almost frightening. “We are protective over you not out of pity or because we don’t think you can take care of yourself. We do it out of love. We care what happens to you. We want to be there for your stubborn ass when you need help because we know you won’t ask for it.”

Charlie’s word cut sharply into the block that had been coating his emotions. Tears filled his eyes. His body trembled. His pulsed raced and gut tightened. Whatever withheld all those feelings splintered, nearly shattering.

Charlie’s head fell forward, cursing under his breath. His fingers loosened from Zack’s shirt.

“Maria Mulligan’s family?”

Three heads turned toward the young doctor in a set of scrubs. “Yes,” three male voices said simultaneously.

“How is she?” Charlie released Zack and was the first to approach the man inside the door.

“She has mostly first degree burns on twenty percent of her body despite how bad she looked coming in. We had to remove her spleen and we stopped the internal bleeding. Her pelvis was fractured but it shouldn’t create complications. However, we had to also reset her right leg. She’ll be in quite a bit of pain when she wakes up, but the good news is that the baby is stable and appears to be unharmed by the incident. But we'll keep a close eye on her.”

Zack stared at the doctor. A lot of what he’d said had gone over his head. All he cared about was that Maria was going to be all right. His last sentence shocked. Him.
