See, I'm posting two days in a row *feeling faint* LOL
I know, I know...but let's hope it keeps up :D
Anyway, I wrote a short story titled O'Joyful Night and posted it over at Slash and Burn. It's a M/M story so stop by and take a look. It's sweet, romantic, and quite spicy- if you know what I mean *wink* Just click the link and you'll be there.
Enjoy and stay safe.

And yes, Ryan and Zack are extremely pissed at me for leaving them in such a precarious position for so long *sigh* How many lashes do I deserve? I've made a promise to them to get back on it after Christmas and to finish their story :)
The good thing is that some reviews have been rolling in the last couple of days *yippee!* I'll list the links since there's several.
Testing Passion - From ck2s Kwips and Kritiques gave it 4 klovers!
At The Edge - From Rainbow Reviews gave it 4 stars!
enWrappture - From Rainbow Reviews gave it 4 stars!
At the Edge - From Joyfully Reviewed
enWrappture - From Joyfully Reviewed
I can't complain with any of them as they all said nice things about my books.
Oh, and don't forget to visit World of Mayhem for some more book info. It's been slow, but there are some new entries there.

I'll be loading the board with excerpts, fun things, comics, and of course prizes throughout the day, including a PDF copy of each of my latest new releases from Phaze and Loose-Id!
See you there!

I know I usually have a release contest, but since I'm having an author chat next week (the 11th) at Beth Wylde's group, I'm going to hold off until then, where I'll be giving away several holiday goodies AND a chance to win a copy of Bonded Hearts.
Also, on the 8th, The Romance Studio will be giving away a copy of Bonded Hearts in their Book-A-Day Giveaway!
When Detective Nick Montgomery finally catches up to the serial killer plaguing Miami, he finds himself in a kind of trouble he never expected: caught up in the killer's magic. The killer's spell transports him to Ketall, an alternate world of a primitive nature, home of dragons.
Jax, a red-eyed dragon, doesn't exactly like him -- or the idea of having to share her Rider, Kel, with anyone, especially not Nick. Kel's young, possessive, and spoiled. At least that's what Kel tells her. So why is she starting to be attracted to this off-worlder who interrupts their life? Why does he set her blood boiling with desire every time they are near? And why can't she kill him to rid her of the annoyance?
Kel, her Rider, has been drawn to the stranger he saved from death from the beginning; more so when he realizes that Nick is also fated to bond with his dragon, Jax. Never has a dragon had two bondmates at one time, and the prospect astounds -- and arouses -- him.
Then an evil sorcerer and his witch complicate matters by trying to send Nick back to his own world. If they succeed, it will destroy Ketall. And kill both Jax and Kel.
Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Ménage (m/m/f), homoerotic sexual practices, violence.

However, I got my Christmas tree up today along with all the inside decor. Still gotta do the lights outside though. I'll get to that sometime this week.
Well, my website is back up. I've switched servers and re-designed it. I actually dusted off my photoshop and did the graphics myself- so please don't laugh. I've never claimed to be a great artist. Just enough to get by ;) So take a stroll over and let me know what you think, sign my guestbook and check out my latest releases. Oh, and remember, I'm still doing a little tweaking here and there, so my author links hasn't been completed yet.
NaNo was a complete failure for me. Okay, not that bad, but I only managed to write a little over 11k. *sigh* November was a challenging month between real life issues, illnesses, and edits. Not to mention the extra time I took to do some promoting for my releases that were due at the end of Oct and middle of November. I guess there's always next year *shrug*
Oh, and I'm on my last chapter of Fallen Angels. I'm a little stuck on just how I want it to end, so I decided to begin the big editing and synopsis today along with deciding which publisher I should send it to. I think I'm going to step out of my comfort zone and actually try to submit it to EC...if I don't chicken out lol

Congratulations! I'll be sending you an email.
No worries if you didn't win this time. Tuesday, Dec 4th is the release of my Loose-Id book, Bonded Hearts and I'm just waiting for a confirmation of an author day in December where I'll be giving away some prizes. Oh, and I have a TRS Book-A-Day Giveaway sometime in December. I'll have to rumage through my email to find that date, but I'll let you know.
Oh, and just so you know, my website will be out for a couple of days. I found that I was paying WAY too much for my server and website builder and have been working on re-designing the site with new colors (more to match this blog) and graphic (that I made myself - eek), and some re-organization. I've got my book list done so far, but still have some stuff to add and a couple of pages to work on. Give me a couple of days and I should have it up by the weekend - at least enough so readers can see what's up :D

But when I wasn't writing or sleeping *g* on the 12 hour trip from Alabama, I finally dug around my e-book collection and found some short stories to read :D
Jilted by Leigh Ellwood was a great story.
Revenge can be sweet and I loved the twist at the end. I never would have guess!
It's available at http://www.phaze.com/
Dragon's Star by Stephanie Burke was... entertaining. I had a hard time emercing myself into the world of dragon shifters the author created. And the whole Quad concept had me a bit confused until the end...which would have been nice to see a foursome ;) However, the intimate scenes were hot *drool* and I liked Star's attitude throughout the story.
It's available at http://www.redrosepublishing.com/
Kinky Girls Do by Michelle Houston was a sexy piece.
Comprised of four short stories of BDSM, I found myself hating when each story ended. I wanted more and enjoyed the entire book.
It's available at http://www.phaze.com/
And don't forget to check out my other blog - Worlds of Mayhem for more suggestions. My partner in crime, Steph, has made a couple more posts since Wednesday and I'll be adding one of Sierra Dafoe's books to the list tomorrow!
Now back to writing...Fallen Angels is almost completed and getting ready for the big edit so it's pretty for a publisher I've never submitted to. Reluctant Hearts is coming along and I'll be continuing The Gift so I can send in some nice stuff to one of my editors :D
I've also updated the covers on my sidebar. Bonded Hearts cover is now up!
Help another and in some way you too will be helped.

Being on Santa’s Nice List can be rewarding…
We first meet young, charming, and sexy Christopher O’Malley on Valentine’s Night in New York City helping his friends Michael and Todd complete their most hidden fantasies. This night helped Christopher create his own flights of imagination where love and bondage were once just a passing fancy, along with an erotic BDSM book series written by Master Stafon.
Spending the Christmas holiday on the east coast, Christopher finds himself without family or friends. That is until he meets little Emily, her mother Devyn and her uncle Mason…a writer whose pen name is Master Stafon.
Christopher is instantly attracted to Mason, even before he discovers the man’s profession. As Christmas draws near, the holiday looks more appealing as Mason gives Christopher the opportunity of a lifetime. To experience some bondage play first hand. Could this be the gift that keeps on giving?
“Tell me, Christopher.” Mason faced him, hip leaning against the counter. “Who is it that intrigues you the most? Me, Mason Romero or Master Stafon?”
Christopher stared into his deep chocolate eyes, falling further into their grasp. His lust spiked higher, his blood heating. He had the greatest urge to fall to his knees and worship Mason’s body. To have those striking long fingers touch him, run through his hair, scratch at his scalp. He shivered with exhilaration.
“Would you be offended if I said both?” His voice was deep with arousal.
Mason moved closer, the corner of his lip twitching, amused. “No, actually it pleases me.”
“It…it does?” Christopher was surprised. Was Mason actually interested in him?
Mason leaned closer, there was only an inch between their mouths. The scent of brewing coffee mingled with Mason’s spicy cologne. Christopher’s nose had never smelt a better scent. It made his body tingle and his cock twitch.
“Yes, Christopher.” Mason closed the distance and brushed his lips ever so softly over Christopher’s. “However, Master Stafon is just a character. I admit, he’s a part of me, but not all of who I am.”
“I understand that.” Christopher swallowed hard.
“And I’d be pleased to show you my dungeon. But only if you are willing to play. What do you say? Do you think you could handle me?”
Christopher was speechless, his throat working, trying to find his voice. His nerve endings were jumping with excitement, his imagination running wild. He gave up and just nodded his response.
Mason chuckled and moved away. His lips curved into a smile of unspoken promises of pleasure. “Let’s see if you can, Christopher.”
Oh, and let's not forget a contest. I'll be posting details tomorrow, so come back and take a look at what you have to do to win.

Zack’s hands were trembling so bad he had to push them deep into his pockets. The last thing he wanted was for Ryan to see exactly how nervous he was about this outing. Logically, he knew it was silly. But since the incident with Rob, Zack hasn’t really been himself.
However, after the past two weeks of sessions with Dr. Parker, he was ready to move on. To face his fears. To take life by the horns. Okay, really, he’d be happy if he could just spend a few hours with Ryan and come across as a complete fool.
Zack jumped and silently cursed himself for being so jumpy. He was safe. He had no reason to feel otherwise.
“Are you ready?”
Zack smiled. “Sure. Where did you have in mind?”
Ryan scratched his head. He looked so childlike. He couldn’t look more adorable. Just watching him made his blood heat and his dick tingle. It baffled all logic how he could feel this way toward Ryan.
“I figure we could head downtown and go from there.” He let out a huff. “What do you get someone who has everything they want or need.”
Zack shook his head. “I see your problem. So it’s window shopping until something jumps out at us.”
“Exactly.” He smiled and it made Zack’s knees weaken right there.
Zack cleared his throat, pushing away the arousing feelings that were coursing violently through his veins. “It’s downtown we go.”
“I can’t believe you said that to her.” Zack laughed.
Ryan shrugged. “She was pushy. I hate pushy salesmen. Or should I say saleswomen.” He glanced at Zack, his eyes full of ecstatic mischief. “But she still gave me that discount. Dad’s going to love this shirt.”
“She was vying for your phone number.”
“Not my type.”
Zack stopped walking and stared at Ryan. His amusement sobered. Ryan stopped three steps later, turned and gazed at him.
“What is your type?” Had he really asked that? Damn, he was going to get himself into a corner he didn’t want.
Ryan’s brow rose. “Do you really want to know that answer?”
Zack hesitated before he answered. Which would be worse? To know Ryan wanted him or didn’t have an interest in him? “Yeah. I want to know.”
Ryan brushed his fingers through his hair. It had grown out since he’d come back to town. Zack liked it.
“You.” Ryan said softly. “You’re my type.”
My jaw did an imitation of a fish out of water. I had hoped he would say that, but to actually hear him say it took my breath away.
“Ryan.” His name came out as whisper.
He looked away and started walking. “Forget about it. I’ve got to--”
“No.” Zack rushed to catch up. He caught Ryan’s arm to make him stop. “I don’t want to forget about it.” He stepped closer and let his lips brush over Ryan’s. He tasted so delicious, he needed more. Without hesitation, Zack pressed his mouth more firmly onto Ryan’s, who opened invitingly. Zack moaned, his tongue dipping into the sweet honey beckoning.

First off, I've got an Author Spotlight at Selena Illyria's blogs:
Stop by and find a new excerpt for Testing Passion.
Second, my dear friend, Steph, and I have started a promo blog called Worlds of Mayhem.
Come by and check it out.
Have a wonderful week...I'll be back Friday.
Monday, November 05, 2007
Also, I won't be on the Web from now until Friday since I'm off to a little mini vacation to the beach with my hubby and some friends. :D If I'm lucky, I might get to post something tomorrow before leaving, but no guarantees. So have a great week!
PS...forgive my errors. It's late at night and my 2 year old granddaughter has had me distracted all evening ;)
Ryan threw the cordless phone onto his bed, softly cursing. How hard was it to call a friend and ask for help? Obviously extremely difficult. Running his hands through his mused hair, Ryan glared at his reflection in the mirror.
“You’re such a pussy.”
It had been two weeks since he had dinner with Zack, Charlie, and Maria. Surprisingly, Zack had started calling Ryan after that night. At first the conversations had been short, nothing too personal. But as each day passed, they talked longer and the topics got more personal. Not quite intimate, but Ryan had learned more about Zack than Rob ever knew in their two-year relationship. Ryan felt as if he and Zack had become friends.
It was Ryan’s father’s birthday the follow day. So why was it so hard to ask his friend to go shopping with him?
“Because you’re afraid of rejection, you ass,” he told himself aloud. And it was true. Their friendship was formed over the phone lines. It had to be easier when Zack didn’t have to see the same face that filled his nightmares.
The shrill of the phone’s ringer made Ryan jump. Plopping down on the bed, he reached for the phone. The caller-id said it was Zack.
“Hey,” Ryan answered, hoping his voice sounded casual. “I didn’t expect to hear from you today. Is everything alright?”
“Yeah. I just got back from Dr. Parker’s office. I was wondering - -” he paused. Ryan held his breath. “Did you ever get your dad a gift?”
Ryan’s mouth open and closed twice before he cleared his throat, fighting to find his voice. “Actually, I was just about to head out to get it.”
There was silence over the line for several heartbeats. Ryan’s body tensed, his stomach tightly knotted.
“Well, I was wondering- - I mean, maybe I could- - or- - crap! It’s not as easy as she thinks.”
“Zack?” Ryan had a sense what he was wanting, but if the she was Dr. Parker, then he knew enough about psychology to know that whatever Zack was trying to do, he had to do so fully or not at all. Still, his gut did a little somersault of glee.
Zack sighed loudly. Ryan waited.
“What the hell,” he muttered. “Do you want some company, Ryan?”
Surprisingly, Ryan’s throat tightened as Zack’s words actually sank into his consciousness.
“Sure,” he managed to force out, his gut quivering with anticipation. Just the thought of seeing Zack again had blood rushing to his cock.
There was a small gasp over the line before Zack spoke again. “I’ll meet you outside your apartment in fifteen minutes.” He sounded breathless.
“Alright. See you then.” Ryan hung up looking at the phone dazed. His gaze shifted to his now aching groin. “Down boy. No action for you.” He shook his head to clear the haze. “Now, what to wear?” Ryan looked down at his pajama bottoms. If he was going out of the house today, he had to at least look as if he dressed and was active more than one day a week. Glancing at his watch, he rushed to the bathroom to shower and shave before Zack got there.

First off, I hope everyone has had a safe and fun Halloween.
Second, I know this is supposed to have the next chapter to Second Chances, but I'm still working on the chapter. But really, I have an excuse. A friend of ours has passed away. He was only 41 years old. He was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago (yes, I said HE, not a typo - apparently men can get it too) but despite the treatments, it spread throughout his body. The funeral is tomorrow and with the pressure of edits and the death this week, it's been a rough one. So please forgive me. The funeral is out of town so I'm planning on finishing the chapter during the trip and hopefully continue this story.
Third, since I will be out of town, I'm keeping my contest for Testing Passion's release open until Friday evening. So there's still a chance to be entered.
Oh, and NaNo starts tomorrow! I'll be participating again this year (I really sucked last year, but it was a learning experience) but I won't get started until Saturday.
The greater your resolve, the more that can happen.

Also, let's celebrate with a little contest. Who's up for some chocolate? Sounds like a delicious prize and a reason to go shopping :D
Just read the excerpt and leave me a comment on this post with the answer to the following question:
Who is Janet's neighbor directly above her?
I'll draw a name on Halloween night, so make sure you check back to see if you are the winner.
I'll also need a way to contact the winner, so you may leave an address in your comments or feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Toys are for grown-ups too…
Janet O'Neal enjoys her part-time job with Pandora's Box. She sets her own schedule, it's never boring, and at times exhilarating. Yes, being a sex toy tester can be stimulating. But when her boyfriend dumps her, Janet hates the limitations that are forced upon her.
Damien Richards seeks out his best tester. He has a deadline approaching fast and there is no one he trusts more to make sure his products are ready for production. Of course, he has another motive when he knocks on Janet's door asking for help. Being the owner of Pandora's Box, he's frightened that he is losing his best tester, the woman who has intrigued him for months, fascinated by the passion of her reports.
Can Damien talk Janet into spending a weekend with him working, testing passion along with the toys? Will Janet welcome the stranger into her most secret fantasies?
Warning: Toys and mild bondage included in this story
Taking note of the time, Janet pushed the last ball inside her vagina. She shivered as the coolness of the two metal balls slid across her heated walls, then settled inside her. With great care she pulled her black lace underwear up her legs. She was as comfortable as she would get.
Pulling her long blonde hair back into a ponytail, Janet mentally went through her checklist. She had called her friends and informed them she would be out of town, so they wouldn't call or stop by to distract her. She'd set her answering machine for those who persisted on calling. Her kitchen was stocked with goodies for the weekend so she would not have to leave her apartment. Her CD player was stuffed with all her favorite
music. Lastly, she had a stack of books sitting on her kitchen table. They were all erotic romance by her favorite authors.
It was Saturday and she had two days to complete her work. Plenty of time to test all the products sent in this last shipment. As a sex toy tester, Janet was able to arrange her own work schedule, which made it easier to work around her sometimes grueling college schedule. It was a well paying job, even if it was just part time. The money she earned covered her living expenses. Only her closest of friends knew what she did. Janet wasn't ashamed of the job, but when she told others what she did, they assumed she was a nymphomaniac. Yes, she enjoyed sex. She was a normal twenty-three-year-old college student studying journalism with a healthy sexual nature. But she didn't think about sex twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
A knock on her door startled Janet. Looking at the clock on her bedside table she observed it was a little after noon. She wasn't expecting anyone; her package had arrived on Thursday, so who could be at her door?
Janet slipped into the robe that lay next to her, the red silk caressing her bare breasts. She would have tried to dress in more clothing, but the knock sounded again. Janet walked to the door, aware of every step as the Ben Wa balls she'd just slipped inside knocked against each other and sent shuddering vibrations through her body.
She took a deep breath when she reached the door. Her nipples were aroused to stiff peaks and the silk touching them only stimulated them more. Hoping it was someone she could ignore, Janet looked through the peephole.
The man standing at her door was a stranger. A handsome stranger, but still she didn't know him. Maybe he had the wrong door. He was probably looking for Christie, the gorgeous model who lived one floor above her. Her visitors often got the wrong floor and ended up knocking on Janet's door instead. She thought about just ignoring it, let him call Christie and realize he had the wrong apartment, but the knock came again, this time harder and louder. Janet looked through the peephole again, not sure what to do.
Opening the door slowly, she managed to hide most of her body behind the door.
"Can I help you?" she asked politely. Seeing the man without the distortion of the peephole made her heart skip a beat. This man was more than handsome; he was the most gorgeous man she'd laid eyes on. His hair was jet black and straight, falling carelessly around his face, mostly one length, hanging past his collar. The part down the middle made it possible to see his facial features. His cheeks were high. He probably had American Indian blood somewhere in his heritage. His nose was not large but held a sharp angle. On any other face it would seem awkward, but not his. His eyes were the color of milk chocolate and framed by thick black lashes.
"Are you Janet O'Neal?"
Janet was surprised to hear her name coming from his mouth. A mouth sensually shaped to perfection. "Oh, uh, yes, I am." she answered, weariness weighing her response. She rarely had men this attractive asking for her.
He smiled then, and Janet felt the breath leave her lungs. He had a dimple in his left cheek and when he smiled his handsome face appeared even younger.
"I'm Damien. Pandora's Box sent me."

Monday also happens to the release of Testing Passion!!! Keep and eye out for a little contest. Still deciding on the prize. Maybe I'll give away the book or something Halloweeny :D
I'll be back!

In my last post I spoke about going away to a Karate Tournament. Had a ball and brought home first place in my division for breaking (yes, real boards - 4 of them total) and second place for my form. Not too shabby *G* but then that's when things took a turn.
The following morning, I woke with a sore throat. Thinking it was just my sinuses (the hotel I stayed at allowed pets so dandur was in the carpet, etc) I went for my MRI - and yes, there's actually a mass of tissue in my head reguardless of how my husband teases me- and thought it was just the contrast that was making me sicker as the day went by. By Monday morning I was running 103.5 temperature. Doctor? Heck, yeah.
Needless to say, I somehow got a really bad case of Strep Throat and had to do two rounds of antibiotics because the first medicine didn't touch it hardly at all. Still running low grade temperature on the third day and my ears throbbing beyond belief was a big clue that the drugs weren't working.
Needless to say, I'm well now, but I missed the testing of my next level in karate. I get to make that up tomorrow *sigh* Learning new things in less than a week to be tested on is not fun at all.
Let's not forget the fundraiser ending this week and the tennis tournament I'm supposed to be helping out in - but don't remember signing up for - at my children's school this week. It's no wonder I have headaches *lol*
Well, anyway, I've been doing some thinking. I'm not happy with my web server or rather the cost of it so I'm looking to switch which means I have to rebuild my site. *grumbling* I've finished edits for Testing Passion and enWrappture, both of which comes out at Phaze (Oct and Nov) and am starting on the edits for Bonded Hearts which is due for release in Dec. at Loose-Id.
I'm going to continue Second Chances (I'm really sorry my muse failed to keep me up on this one) and will be trying to add some new things here on my blog. Maybe some polls, question of the week, and other things to have more interaction with my readers. NaNo is less than a month away. Whatcha think?
It's well past my bedtime, but thanks for sticking around during my little rant.

I don't know what's worse:
1) having your girlfriend find out that you're married.
2) explaining to your wife how your wedding ring got on yourpenis.
3) Or finding out that your penis fits through your weddingring

TwoLips Reviews gave Journey to the Dark Side 5 Kisses!
"Jared’s introduction to the D/s lifestyle is sexy and highly erotic. Monica has definitely led an interesting life and it’s obvious from the very beginning that Jared is the perfect man for her. Journey to the Dark Side is a great story that has all the necessary elements to keep you entertained. The D/s is rather mild and Jared and Monica have more of a teasing aspect in their approach rather than that of those who live the lifestyle. Marty Rayne has penned a winner!"

First off, my September newsletter is done and up. Read it on my newsletter group:
Second, I'm very happy to announce that my Christmas themed M/M story, enWrappture, has been chosen as a Phaze Frost Heatsheet. If you enjoyed Michael and Todd's Valentine tale, you'll fall in love with Christopher. The release will be sometime in December. I'll announce it when I get the date. I've added my cover to the Coming Soon sidebar.
Third, Romance Junkies rated Journey to the Dark Side a 4.5.
"I was intrigued by the title. By the time I reached the end, I was breathless. It isn't something you read at leisure. You're compelled to read it in one setting and then sit back and absorbed what you've read. If you like an edgy story, I recommend this one. The surprises are many. The end will surprise you."~ Nickie

Testing Passion edits are finished. That is scheduled for release October 29, 2007 at Phaze.
I will be starting my edits soon on Bonded Hearts (my menage release that's due out in December with Loose-Id). And I've started editing enWrappture for its release. So you see, that besides my family/real life demands, my writing life is quite busy too. Very happy writer here.
Everyone have a great week.

“Thank you for coming,” Zack said to Ryan as they stood out on the frong porch. Dinner had gone better than Zack expected. There were a few awkward moments, but Ryan easily smoothed them over, greatly impressing Zack.
“It was nice.” Ryan glanced at Zack. “I was hesitant about coming, but I’m glad I did.”
“Me too. I wasn’t sure if I was ready for this.” Zack shifted his weight nervously. It had only been a week since he started seeing Dr. Parker, but already he felt better. More confident in himself. However, being around Ryan brought about feelings he was still uncertain about. He didn’t want to feel attracted to Ryan. He knew he wasn’t ready for this step, but his subconscious and body had other ideas. Uncountable sensual dreams had filled his nights since he and Ryan kissed. Even now, standing three feet from the man of his dreams, his cock was tingling with unrestrained desire. It caused both confusion and frustration.
“Remind me to offer to cook when Maria wants to do this again.”
Zack laughed. He relaxed. It felt good. “She tries.”
Quiet settled over them. Zack stared out to the street, watching the occasional car drive by. It was a nice neighborhood. Full of children and families. He felt a little out of place here. He never dared to dream of having a house like this and little ones running around. Hell, he was lucky if he’d ever get involved with anyone again.
“I know you have a lot to work through,” Ryan interrupted the silence. “But if you ever need to talk…or get out of the house. Well, you can call me.”
Zack’s stomach fluttered like butterflies suddenly appeared. “Thanks. I appreciate it.” He lifted his trembling hand and laid it on top of Ryan’s. He felt like a teenager on his first date. Only this wasn’t really a date. And no matter how attracted he was to Ryan, Zack wanted to be friends first. He’d learned his lesson on romances that swept him off his feet.
Ryan slipped his hand away from Zack. He could feel the hesitation.
“It’s time for me to get home. Again, thanks for dinner.”
Zack smiled. “Take care, Ryan. And…” he paused, swallowed hard, and pushed away the nervous tightening in his gut. “If you need anything, let me know.” He raised his casted arm. “This comes off soon, but I’m still capable of doing most my normal activities.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Ryan’s hand brushed lightly across Zack’s as he walked off the porch.
Zack watched him get into his car and drive away.
“Thanks, Charlie.” He’d heard the door open after Ryan’s car started. Maria would have come out. “You weren’t a jerk once tonight.”
Charlie chuckled and stepped into the spot Ryan had just vacated. “Surprisingly, it wasn’t that hard to restrain.”
“Ryan’s a good guy. I think once we get past all of this, you two will be great friends.”
Charlie shook his head. “I wouldn’t bet on that, Zack. But I’ll agree to taking it one day at a time.” He patted Zack on the back and went back inside leaving Zack to his thoughts.

Good morning and Happy Lobor Day. Since I'll be spending the day with friends, frolicking in the pool and working on my tan, I'm postponing the next chapter of Second Chances until tomorrow. So kick back and relax today. I know I am *wink* (oh, and I'm going to get back to more regular posting this week :D )

So here it is.
Ryan held his breath as he waited for the door to be answered. Again and again he asked himself what he was doing here? He felt as if he were walking into a lion’s den. The door opened and he was a little relieved to find that it was Charlie who answered. He still wasn’t sure if he was ready to see Zack or not.
“Hayes.” Charlie nodded and opened the door wider.
Ryan hesitated. His stomach wound in a tight knot.
Charlie sighed. “Maria won’t serve you dinner out there.”
Taking a deep breath Ryan took the first step and crossed the threshold.
“Charlie, what’s…Oh, Ryan.” She smiled radiantly at him. “Please come in. Dinner will be ready in five minutes.”
“Thank you.” He returned her infectious smile.
Maria swept out of the room in her graceful manner. Charlie was a lucky man to have a woman like her.
“Have a seat. Would you like some tea? Water? Beer?”
“A beer would be nice.” Ryan walked toward the couch Charlie indicated, however, his eyes kept glancing to the stairs.
“No problem. I’ll get it.” He walked toward the doorway Ryan assumed led to the kitchen.
Ryan looked around the room. The décor was feminine. It matched Maria’s bubbling personality with its vivid colors and honey oak furniture. Despite the friendly surroundings, Ryan couldn’t relax.
Startled, Ryan’s breath hitched. He stood abruptly, turning toward the front door. He hadn’t even heard it open.
“Zack.” The name came out in a rush of breath. Heat exploded in Ryan’s body remembering how good it felt to be pressed against the man standing in front of him. He fought to maintain control. He wasn’t an adolescent child entering puberty.
They stared at each other, wordless. It took Ryan a few breaths before he found his voice. “You look good.”
Zack’s cheeks flushed at the compliment. Ryan couldn’t stop the smile, enjoying the youthful expression. It was nice to see something other than shadows in his eyes.
“How’s your shoulder?”
Ryan shrugged with his good shoulder. “It’s coming along. No infection, but the Doc said I’d have to go through some rehab before I can get back to work.”
Zack nodded, his eyes leaving Ryan’s gaze. His mouth opened and he was about to say something when Charlie came in, a beer in each hand.
“Hey, Zack. I didn’t hear you come in. Want a beer?” He handed Ryan a beer and held the other out to Zack.
Zack shook his head. “As tempting as that is, I can’t. I promised Dr. Parker I’d stay away from alcohol, sleeping pills, and anything else that may ‘take away the pain’.” He raised his fingers and made invisible quotation marks in the air.
“Dr. Parker?” Ryan asked, then regretted it. It wasn’t my business. “Never mind. I didn’t mean to pry.”
“Dr. Parker is Zack’s therapist.” Charlie supplied, taking a sip of his beer. “She specializes in abusive relationships and helping the victims move on.”
Ryan’s brow rose. “You found one in Alameda?” The town was so small you didn’t need more than two officers on duty at once.
“A complete fluke,” Zack said. “She moved here about six months ago from California. However, she’s a New Mexico native. Grew up over in Roswell.”
“She took Dr. Long’s position when he decided to retire. She’s settled in nicely here. The folks like her well enough.”
“Dinner’s ready,” Maria announced.
Charlie turned and started to the kitchen. “Need any help, honey?” he asked, but Ryan caught the sideways glance at him and Zack as if he didn’t really want to leave them alone.
“This is your last chance to skedaddle. Maria’s not the best of cooks. Her food has been known to cause more stomach problems than food poisoning.”
I chuckled and looked at Zack. “I’m good. Can’t be any worse than my mother’s cooking. She was the world’s worst. If it weren’t for dad finally hiring a cook when we were young, I think we would have starved.”
Zack made a face, but his eyes were laughing. “That’s an exaggeration. Surely someone couldn’t be that bad. Rob was a…” Zack stopped and his expression sobered.
Damn it, Ryan cursed silently. He had to open his big mouth. Instead of letting them dwelling on the unpleasantries, he delved through his mind for a funny story.
“Now my partner, Jerry. He was an awesome cook. However, this one time, when he was trying to make a veggie lasagna I thought I would die.” Ryan gently touched Zack’s shoulder and started herding him to the dinning area while he told him the story. From the corner of his eye Ryan caught sight of Maria and Charlie standing in the kitchen doorway still as a mouse and watching them closely.

I've been busy writing up requested book proposals (a good thing), real life appointments, unannounced company dropping by, birthdays, and the headaches of inheriting the PTO Treasurer (which I'm sick of looking at numbers). Oh and let's not forget the latest story occupying my thoughts and demanding very strongly to be written (titled: Fallen Angels).
I do apologize. I haven't forgotten about Second Chances. The chapter will be finished sometime today and I plan to have it up sometime tomorrow.

Ecataromance gave it 4.5 stars!
"Journey to the Dark Side is a steamy story that truly seems plausible. I liked that Jared did not have to enter this tight-knot community as if he were actually a part of it. Instead, he goes in with a knowledgeable guide and acts true to his character…an Alpha trying to be submissive. It definitely made Journey to the Dark Side more interesting, not to mention the sizzling chemistry between the two characters is explosive. I really enjoyed this shot, hot tale!" ~ Trang

Ryan hesitated when a knock sounded at his door. The last person who knocked had left extremely upset. That was the day before. However, he had to admit he was craving some human interaction. He just wasn’t sure if he wanted the kind that stood on the other side. He opened the door anyway.
Ryan sighed, leaning on the door. He didn’t have the patience for a lecture. “What do you want Mulligan?”
Charlie glanced around. “Can I come in?”
Ryan shrugged his one good shoulder. “I’m sure you’ll just keep bugging me if I don’t.” He stepped out of the way to let his visitor enter. His gaze narrowed on Charlie. He so didn’t want a lecture.
Charlie looked around, as if delaying the purpose of his visit.
“How’s Zack?” Ryan couldn’t prevent the question from being voiced. He’d worried all evening for the other man though he knew it best to just forget Zack all together.
“He was pretty upset. Last night he let Maria talk him into seeing a therapist. That’s improvement.”
Ryan nodded, leaning against the counter. He forced himself not to fidget, outwardly showing leisure casualness, while his insides were a tight, churning knot. He watched Charlie shift his weight from foot to foot. There was more.
“Just spit it out. Why did you come here?”
Charlie rubbed at the back of his neck and let out a long exhale. “Zack, Maria, and I sat down last night. Got a lot of things off our chests.” He met Ryan’s eyes for the first time since stepping into the apartment. “First, I have to say thank you for calling yesterday. We knew Zack was in a bad way, we just didn’t know how to break through to him. Whatever you two talked about…” he paused, his lips forming a thin line. Ryan had to wonder what exactly Zack told him happened between them.
“Well, it was like unlocking a flood gate. He opened up to us for the first time since this all went down.”
“Good. He’ll need good friends and steady support as he gets through his trauma.” Lord knows he’d not had it…until Jerry.
Charlie nodded, almost distractedly. “You were another subject we broached with Zack.”
Ryan froze, his body stiffened. “And?”
“I personally think you and Zack need to stay as far away from each other as possible.”
So did Ryan, but on its own accord a protest started, only to be interrupted.
“But I was outnumbered. Christ, for some reason Zack wants…” Charlie ran his hand through his hair. Was it agitation? Anger? Hopelessness? “Hell, he actually feels like he should get to know you. Something about a connection. An understanding. He didn’t really make sense to me, but Maria agreed with him.”
This completely shocked Ryan. After what had happened yesterday, the kiss, the fear he’d invoked in Zack. Surely, the last thing he wanted was to be anywhere near him.
“So Maria wants you to come to dinner next week.”
“Dinner? Look Mulligan, I don’t know about this. After all that’s happened, I’m not sure if this is such a good idea.”
“Tell me about it,” Charlie murmured. “But they were both insistent. Zack starts seeing the therapist tomorrow. He’ll have a few sessions in before you come over and you should be feeling better.” He nodded to his wounded shoulder.
Ryan shook his head. “I don’t know.” The feel of Zack’s body against his had haunted his sleep. The taste of the other man had haunted his wake. He needed distance, not dates.
“Take some time and think about it. Maria decided on next Thursday. Seven o’clock. That leaves you a little over a week.” Charlie turned and started for the door.
Charlie opened the door, but stopped, looking over his shoulder.
“You’re really against this, aren’t you?”
His eyes closed as if in pain, his brows drawing together. “Yeah, I am.” He turned and left, leaving Ryan confused, yet a little excited at the prospect of seeing Zack again.

Zack didn’t know where he was going and didn’t care. All he knew was that he needed to get as far from Ryan Hayes as possible. The things that man did to him…his scent, his touch, even those damn gorgeous eyes penetrated every barrier he’d erected. It scared him shitless that he could fall for someone so easily, who looked like the devil himself.
He swiped at the tears falling from his eyes with trembling hands, but more tears kept his vision blurred. Blinking rapidly, Zack started running at a full-out sprint. It felt good to run. He felt freer at that moment than he had in years, as his heart raced, shoving oxygen into his body and his lungs, exhaling it just as forcibly.
Soon his chest began to ache and his legs burned as the muscles working as one were pushed beyond its limits. It wasn’t until he reached a bench in the center of a park did he ungracefully collapse, allowing his body to rightfully scream its anger at its abuse.
Luckily the park was mostly deserted, it being a weekday and most of the Alameda’s population was either in school or working. Zack’s head fell into his shaky hands, shoulders bobbing from the deep sobs finally surfacing. He finally relented, letting out years of regret, resentment, and humiliation as his soul began its cleansing.
Zack didn’t know how long he sat there and cried. It could have been a minute, an hour, or even a day. To him, time seemed to have stopped. His body jerked in defense and a whimper escaped when an arm wrapped around his shoulder.
“Zack, it’s okay.” Charlie’s voice was calm and smooth. “It’s just me.” His arm stayed in place.
Embarrassment flushed his cheeks, though Zack doubted it could be seen over the red of exertion his run had caused. Still he was mortified to have Charlie find him such a wreck. He squeezed his eyes, willing the spout of tears to dry up, but found it difficult now that it had been opened.
Zack didn’t want to look at Charlie. He didn’t want to see the pity in his friend’s eyes. But was he going to be a coward the rest of his life? Charlie had seen him at his best and worst. Charlie, like Maria, knew all of his shortcomings and still was his friend.
Slowly Zack opened his eyes and lifted his head. Only then did Charlie remove his embrace.
“Are you alright?”
There was no pity in Charlie’s eyes. Only concern…and compassion. Much like a set of eyes he’d been gazing into earlier.
“Zack? Talk to me, buddy. You’re really scaring me.”
“How…” his voice was harsh and dry. He swallowed and cleared his throat. “How’d you know I was here?”
Charlie’s expression hardened. “Hayes called. Ryan, that is. He said that you left his place pretty upset.” He shook his head. “What in the world were you thinking, Zack? What made you go over there? The last thing you need is to be involved with anymore Hayes.”
Zack let out a tired sigh. “Don’t you think I know that?” He squeezed his eyes shut and grimaced as he straightened out his legs. Amazingly, he could still feel the heat from Ryan’s lips upon his own. He could still taste the other man in his mouth. Could still smell that deep masculine scent on him. And hated that he wanted more.
Prying his eyes open, hoping to soften his senses and the permanently embedded memory of how Ryan felt pressed against him, and met Charlie’s stare. “I went for a walk and ended up there. I don’t know why. I just needed to see him.”
“What did he do to upset you? If he threatened you or touched…”
“No!” Zack interrupted. “It wasn’t him. It was me. God!” He ran a hand through his hair, sweeping the damp strands from his face. “We were,” Zack paused. Shit, he couldn’t tell Charlie that they were making out. He’d kill Ryan for sure. Looking down at the grass, he tried to fix his near mistake. “We were just talking. He’d cut himself and I bandaged it. But then I started to panic and I ran. I couldn’t help it.”
Charlie’s hand lay on Zack’s shoulder comfortingly. “You still shouldn’t have gone over there. Especially by yourself.”
Zack nodded, knowing he was right. Charlie cursed beneath his breath.
“Don’t blame Ryan. Don’t retaliate against him for my panic. It’s not his fault I got upset.” He lifted his gaze. “Ryan is a good guy. As much as our initial instincts tell us different, he’s not like Rob. You have to believe me, Charlie. Where Rob is dark, Ryan is light. Where Rob is hateful and selfish, Ryan is kind and helpful.” Damn, Zack knew he was going too far, but like the tears he had trouble curbing, the same was for his words.
Charlie’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t know him that well, Zack. How can you say that about him?”
Zack’s heart fluttered and his stomach churned. He tried to be nonchalant in his shrug, not wanting Charlie to find out that he held a higher esteem of Ryan than he logically should. “I just do.”
“It could all be an act. Have you thought of that? Rob seduced you also with kindness at the beginning also. Then, once he got his hooks into you, he showed his true colors. Or have you already forgotten that?”
Zack stood abruptly, shaking off Charlie’s hand. He held out his casted arm. “I haven’t forgotten a single, damn thing that man did to me,” he said through clenched teeth.
Charlie stood. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“Yes you did.” Then Zack let out a defeated sigh, his shoulders slumping, his legs trembling.
“Charlie. I remember all the shit Rob put me through. I remember it whether it’s every time I look in the mirror or not. And yeah, I shouldn’t even think about anything that has to do with Ryan Hayes. But there’s something about him. He’s different than his brother. He’s…I don’t know.” He’s known pain, the same gut-wrenching, heart shattering pain as I have, he thought, but wouldn’t voice.
“Zack,” Charlie sighed and closed his eyes.
“If you can’t trust me, how can I ever trust myself? If I even want to think about getting on with my life, I have to figure out how to do that. And I need the support of my friends.”
“I don’t like you getting involved with Ryan.”
“I know. But I promise you that I won’t let what happened with Rob ever happen again. I’m breaking the cycle. And I promise to go to you and Maria if I need help.”
Charlie stared at him for several breaths before he nodded. “Come on. I’ll take you home before Maria starts to fret about you.”
Zack followed Charlie to his car feeling less burdened than he had since the abuse from Rob started. He was drawn to Ryan. Attracted to the man who looked so much like the monster he hated with all of his being. But right then, in that park, Zack vowed to himself that he would never fall victim to abuse again. He would take a stand and know he had loved ones to back him up and support him. He just wished he’d realized it and done something about it sooner.

Tuesday, July 24, 2007
Ryan’s knees softened to jelly and nearly gave out on him as Zack’s mouth lay against his. The last person to kiss him was Jerry…nearly two years ago. He knew it was past time to break his celibacy, but he’d never found anyone who sent his blood boiling. That was until he stepped into Zack’s life.
Knowing he had no business doing this, that he should break the kiss and kick Zack out, Ryan ignored all reason. He deepened the kiss, opening his lips and accepted Zack’s tongue. He moaned as the man’s deep male flavor invaded his taste buds. Fingers threaded through his thick hair and Ryan ached to do the same. Instead, he settled for stepping closer to Zack. His good arm slithered around Zack and pulled him until their bodies pressed together.
Too long. Yes, it had been too long since Ryan had tasted another’s desire for him. Too long since, he felt lust surging through his veins, his heart doing a pitter-patter rhythm resembling a tap dancer. His cock thickened, growing and pressed tighter into Zack’s stomach.
Damn, the man knew how to kiss, he thought as their tongues continued an erotic tango. The bandaged hand suddenly felt no pain as it slipped higher up Zack’s back until it was drowning in his thick waves of hair. His fingers curled into a fist, gripping tight to the silky mass. Breaking the kiss, gasping for much needed air, Ryan pulled Zack’s head back, baring his neck. With light nips then smooth flicks of his tongue and soft touches of his lips, Ryan trailed across Zack’s jaw and neck.
Zack groaned, the sound vibrating against Ryan’s mouth. He couldn’t get enough, his body flaring with heat and want. Too long without a warm body to tease. Too long without any male delicacy to nibble upon. Ryan felt starved even as pleasure rocketed through him. He could feel Zack’s arousal, the hard erection rubbing against his balls. He damned the material separating them, hating that they weren’t skin to skin.
“Ryan,” Zack’s voice was hoarse, strangled even.
He fought the hands trying to pull him away for the musky skin, a near growl rupturing from his throat.
“Ryan, please.” The words were now less edged, higher pitched and pleading.
Through his lust haze, Ryan realized that Zack was trying to push him away. He looked up and found fear lighting through the darkened desire filling Zack’s eyes. He abruptly pulled away, taking several steps back so that there was a significant amount of distance between them. It wasn’t until then that he’d realized he’d backed Zack against a wall.
“Jesus! I…” Ryan didn’t know what to say. His gaze slid over Zack’s heaving chest, up over the small marks he’d made, until it rested on his kiss swollen lips. Ryan squeezed his eyes closed, muttering curses. Damn him to hell for pushing Zack. The kiss had started out as soft, but Ryan had pushed the intensity of it until Zack panicked.
Zack shook his head and moved toward the door.
Ryan stepped toward him. “Zack, please.” It pained him to see Zack flinch as if he were expecting a punch. He silently called his brother every nasty name he could think of. No man or woman should react with fear from a kiss. Okay, it was extremely laced with lust, but fear shouldn’t be a factor.
Ryan held up his hand in surrender and took a couple more steps away giving Zack plenty of room to move. Crowding him wouldn’t help matters.
“I’ve shouldn’t have come.” His eyes were wide, fear gripping tightly to him.
“Stay, please, Zack. We’ll talk. I promise that’s all. I’ll stay on this side of the room.” He couldn’t let Zack leave. Not like this. Not in this state.
Zack shook his head and nearly ran to the door. He threw it open, the knob slamming into the wall making Ryan jump.
“I can’t…I’m sorry. It’s just…” Zack stopped in the doorway, not looking directly at him. Ryan saw the tears streaming down his face.
“It’s my fault.” Ryan admitted. “I pushed too far. Please, don’t leave yet. Calm down.”
Zack turned away and ran from him.
“Fuck!” Ryan went to the counter and started shifting through some papers there. It took a half a minute, but he found the business card. Picking up the phone, he called the number written on the back.

Zack lost his nerve…and nearly the contents in his stomach. What in the hell was he doing here? Surely this was just asking for more trouble. He turned from the door just as it opened, the sound of the squeaking hinges startled him.
“Zack?” Ryan’s voice was barely above a whisper, but it commanded him to turn around again.
His mouth opened to speak, only he didn’t know what to say. He didn’t even know why he was there. His gaze went to the towel Ryan had wrapped around one hand and the blood that had soaked through. Zack unconsciously reached out for his hand, taking a step closer to the doorway.
“What did you do? Is it bad? Do you need stitches?” The questions rolled out of his mouth without thought.
“What are you doing here, Zack?” Ryan pulled his hand closer to his body.
His mouth opened, closed, then opened again. He felt like a fish lying out of water, struggling for breath.
Ryan sighed, his head falling forward, chin touching his chest. He looked defeated. Zack wanted to reach out to him, to take that expression from him. It was an odd sensation. Compassion. A feeling he’d not had for a long time toward the other man that wore the same face.
“I don’t know,” Zack finally answered.
Ryan raised his head, gaze locking with Zack’s, and nodded. He took a step back, opening the door wider. Ryan didn’t ask him in, just stepped further in so he could pass over the threshold. Taking a deep breath, Zack braved the unknown and walked through.
The first thing Zack saw was the mess of shattered glass on the floor, blood mixed with the small shards. The pieces to Ryan’s injury fell into place.
“Here, let me help.” Zack looked around the small kitchen and found a broom and dustpan. Though his left arm was still in a cast, he was able to use it while Ryan’s wound from the gunshot still had his arm incapacitated and now the cut on his uninjured arm made things harder.
With great care, he picked up what was left of the photo frame and the picture it had held. Putting the two aside, Zack swept up the shards of glass.
Ryan jumped when Zack grabbed his wrist. “What are you…?”
“Let me see.” Zack slowly unwrapped the towel. There was a gash in his palm, blood trickling from the nasty wound. “Where’s your first aid kit?”
“Come on. There’s still a piece of glass there.” Zack tightened his grip on Ryan’s wrist and started pulling him toward the bathroom. “Do you have tweezers?”
“I’m…not sure. Maybe.”
Zack didn’t allow Ryan even a second to protest. The poor man was probably in shock at his take-charge attitude. An advantage for Zack.
“Hold your hand under the faucet,” Zack instructed, turning on the cold water before digging through the cabinets and drawers, pulling out the supplies needed.
Holding Ryan’s hand up toward the light, Zack turned it one way then the other. Taking the tweezers, he carefully extracted the shard of glass.
“There, now just hold some pressure on it until I get the bandages ready.”
“Looks like you’ve done this before.” Ryan held the towel over the cut.
Zack shrugged. He opened the sterile gauze a bit clumsily, the cast hindered some of the range of motion of his wrist. “A time or two.” After two years with Rob, he’d learned first aid real quick. Of course he wasn’t about to remind Ryan of that.
It took only a couple of minutes to wrap up Ryan’s hand. “It’s going to be a bitch for a couple of days, but it should heal fine. Not deep or big enough for stitches.”
“Thanks,” Ryan withdrew his hand, holding it up in front of him. “Zack…not that I’m not grateful, but what are you doing here? How did you even know where I lived?”
Damn, he’d hoped Ryan wouldn’t ask that, but it appears as if he wasn’t about to let it drop. Wadding the trash into a ball, he exited the bathroom, the room suddenly feeling way too cramped.
Ryan followed him out not giving him an inch of space. Nope, he wasn’t going to let it drop.
Taking a deep breath, Zack met Ryan’s gaze and a shot of heat slithered to his groin, his breath halted for just a second. Damn, would the breathless feeling ever go away when he looked upon a Hayes man?
“I wish I had an answer for you, Ryan. Really, I do. I was feeling restless, tired of being inside and went for a walk. The next thing I know, I’m standing in front of your door knocking. It wasn’t intentional.” He swiped at the hair falling into his eyes. “Jesus, Ryan, the last thing I need is another Hayes in my life.”
Zack held up his hand stopping him from speaking further. “I know. If you were, you probably wouldn’t have saved me…or Charlie.” He started pacing restlessly. This wasn’t helping to calm the already chaotic emotions rolling within. “I don’t know what’s going on. Maybe I’m trying to find a way to get on with my life. To get past all the shit Rob put me through. To face my fears.”
“Are you scared of me, Zack?”
Zack stopped pacing and looked to Ryan. His gaze slid over the very fit body he was positive that hid beneath the clothing. He kept expecting the despairing chills to run his spine. The one that always slithered through whenever he looked at Rob. Instead, his body seemed to heat with attraction, unexpected lust slamming into his groin. It was surprising for it was never this strong even at the beginning of his and Rob’s relationship.
“No. I feel no fear when I’m around you.”
“Then you are looking in the wrong place to face your fear. In fact, I think you are in the worst place to be if you want to get over Rob.”
Zack’s brows dipped together in confusion.
“Look at me, Zack. REALLY, look at me. I’m nearly identical to the man who tried to kill you. Why in the hell would you even want to be reminded of that with every glance? There’s no fucking way I can even imagine why you’d want to be around me, unless you are obsessed with that man.”
Zack was speechless. Ryan was right. Being around Ryan, looking into those beautiful stormy eyes should bring back memories of pain and humiliation. Only it didn’t. That was the shocker. When he looked at Ryan, he saw compassion and…something he couldn’t identify. Longing? Loneliness? He associated little to Rob when he was around Ryan. How is that possible?
Zack’s body had a mind of its own, walked up to Ryan. Without a word, he reached up, cupped Ryan’s face in his palms, and kissed him.

Also, I've signed up for a Writing Challenge called Seventy Days of Sweat. By the end of the 70 days, I should have near 100,000 words written and at least 2 of my 3 projects completed *crossing fingers* I was looking for something to get me into gear with these plot bunnies that are just hanging around. Maybe this is just the thing I need :)
Okay, enough of a wait...here's the next part to Second Chances
“Damn it all to hell!” Ryan cursed in frustration as the picture frame fell from his hands and the glass shattered. He dropped to his knees, tears blurring his vision. His good hand reached to his wounded shoulder as if the bracing motion would sooth the constant ache that had taken up residence. His entire body slumped forward toward the picture until a lone tear fell in the mist of the broken wood and glass.
“Jerry,” he breathed.
Ryan closed his eyes to block any more tears, but still he could see the picture as clearly in his mind as the day it was taken. Halloween two years before. Jerry was Zorro while he had chosen the Robin Hood costume. It was the last holiday they would celebrate together. The depth of his despair and depression drew him into his memories.
“We’re going to be late for your sister’s party if you don’t get your butt in gear.” Ryan shouted from the kitchen. “If you think I’m going to take the wrath of Lonni alone then you…” his words died when his lover stepped into the kitchen. “Holy shit,” he murmured, eyeing Jerry decked out in a Zorro costume.
“Not bad, huh?” Jerry smirked, turning in a circle so Ryan could take in the black outfit, cape flaring.
“Never bad. But damn, you look sexy,” Ryan was practically drooling. His hand twitched to grab hold of the love of his life and make mad, passionate love to him. “So fucking sexy.”
Jerry sauntered across the kitchen, his dark eyes glittering with familiar desire.
“You could pass for the real Zorro.” Ryan lifted a hand and his fingers traced Jerry’s jaw. His darker skin tone inherited from his Hispanic ancestry looked even darker next to his fairer complexion. The man was hot without the help of a costume, but the black really accented his coloring; bringing about a lustful need and a hard cock in the space of a breath.
Jerry chuckled. “And what injustice am I to save you from?” he spoke this time with a heavy Spanish accent.
Ryan looked thoughtful for a moment before a slow smile slipped onto his lips. He took Jerry’s hand and placed it on his cock that was straining uncomfortably against his tights. Yes, tights. Robin Hood wouldn’t dare to be seen without tights, right?
“The injustice of enduring a hard-on for the rest of the night.”
Even with the mask on, Ryan could tell that Jerry’s eyebrow cocked up. “Didn’t you say something about running late?”
Ryan stepped closer to Jerry. “Late?” Then their lips touched, tongues meeting for an erotic dance of desire.
“I love you, Ryan.” Jerry pulled away and their eyes locked. His hand cupped Ryan’s chin, thumb brushing over the swollen flesh. “You’ve saved my life in so many ways. I can’t imagine life without you around.”
“Never gonna happen,” Ryan protested before resuming their kissing.
A knock on the door brought Ryan out of his nostalgia. He blinked several times trying to clear the tears still pooling in his eyes. He was shocked to find blood dripping from one of his fingers and onto the shattered glass.
“Shit,” he groused, rising from the floor and grabbed a kitchen towel to wrap around the cut. The knock came again, this time not as strong. Ryan cursed again as he walked to the door.

Serial killer Dante is targeting submissive males who frequent a fetish club, The Dark Side. Detective Monica Street is determined to end the killer’s reign on the community and needs help. Enter sexy FBI Agent Jared Keller, who has the looks and ability Monica is looking for.
And what’s the best way to catch this killer? Draw him out by playing in the world of domination and submission. Only alpha-male Jared gets more than he bargains for as he is engulfed by Mistress Monica, whippings, and the trappings of a psychotic serial killer.
"You realize there is only one bed," Jared stated as they climbed the back stairs. His experience had left him feeling drained; however, remembering the teasing she'd done all night left him aching. They were to appear as lovers and she'd done her part to perfection, easily arousing him with the slightest of touches. The small smiles when he did something right. Even the innuendos she'd spoken as if to prove they were lovers. It pissed him off realizing his body responded so readily for her. But he'd used that emotion to fuel his acts of rebellion.
Monica rolled her eyes. "Have you never had a female partner?"
"Of course I have."
"And did you not have cases that required you to share a room or a bed for an evening?" She opened the door to their room and waited for him to enter before following.
"Sure. But she wasn't wearing a leather corset," he turned on her and backed her against the closed door. "Nor did she spend the night calling me pet and being a cock tease." Jared let his coat open and pressed his body against hers, pushing his hips forward so she could feel just how hard he was.
"Jared…" His name came out in a rush of breath. Her lips parted anticipating his next move.
He didn't disappoint. He swept down and claimed the mouth that had beckoned to him all evening. The mouth he ached to have kissing his flesh. His tongue swept possessively over hers tasting the sweetness of the drinks she'd consumed earlier.
Monica's hands grabbed hold of the lapels on his jacket as she tore her mouth away from his and pulled him closer if that was possible.
"We shouldn't," she was breathless.
"No, we shouldn't," he growled in agreement, but his body didn't listen as his lips started trailing kisses down her neck, his tongue licking at the salty sweetness of her skin. Monica gasped.
"Mixing business with pleasure…" Jared started as his mouth went below her collarbone. Her hands still had a strong grip on his lapels, but his hands were plucking her breasts from the corset, his fingers steadily kneading them.
"Is bad," she groaned as she threw her head back against the door.
"Very bad," Jared admitted a second before sucking a nipple into his mouth. His tongue lapped and teased the hard peak enjoying the whimpering noise coming from her. He switched to her other breast making sure to share the pleasure equally between her two beauties.
"No piercings," he growled.
"No," she chuckled, then gasped as he nibbled on her stiff peaks.
Jared went to his knees, his mouth exploring lower on her body, his lips laying kisses on the leather of her corset. Sometime before that Monica had released his jacket and now had her fingers gripping tightly to his hair, guiding his head to where she wanted him. Between her legs.
He quickly shrugged out of the jacket then lifted his eyes to view the sight above him. Monica was leaning against the door, her head back, eyes closed, and her breasts freed from the corset. Her nipples were still stiff, their color darker from the blood he'd sucked into them. His hands smoothed down her sides, feeling the stays in the leather forcing an hourglass figure on her. He felt her intake of breath at the movement though he wasn't touching her skin. She looked like a goddess to him. He was overwhelmed at the taste of her skin and was sure its flavor was as sweet as the nectar of ambrosia. He wondered if her juices would be even sweeter.
